Being unique - and balancing that with saving money - is a defining trait of this generation. Gen Z is thrifty above all.
According to a national poll conducted with SurveyMonkey Audience partner Clint on behalf of Business Insider and ran Janurary 2020, Gen Z was asked what the biggest factor when deciding whether to purchase items from a brand, 60% responders said price, 18% saying shared values.
There's a clear trend being seen towards secondhand fashion, whether that's for ethical or purely money-saving reasons. Gen Z sees thrifting as the "the way forward". Buying and selling second hand clothing is becoming easier and also more fashionable.
According to researchers at Mintel, 68% of Gen Z attempt to shop more ethically as they agree buying too many fashion items is bad for the environment, spelling bad news for fast fashion retailers that only survive if they sell more and more every year.
